Last Years Ride the Rim Below....

Congratulations to all involved in Ride The Rim - Tweed Valley Cycling Odyssey. We had a great response to all the events held over the weekend. Thanks to all members who attended any event over the weekend - especially those who were unable to join in the cycling due to previous commitments but attended the social functions and renewed their membership, it is great to know you are supporting us.

Friday night saw about 40 people attend the Meet and Greet at the Imperial Hotel - great informal gathering that really set the tone for the weekend. Participants were given an outline of the weekend and an opportunity to sign up for rides.

Thanks to our ride leaders who took out the 10 rides over the weekend - many leading their first ride for WollumbinBUG. The feedback from the rides was wonderful with many commenting on our beautiful town and surrounds and getting to sample the fine coffee at the cafes along the routes. Many commented on the expertise of the ride leaders with their tips for better and safer cycling. Besides locals we had visitors from Canberra, Brisbane, Tasmania, Gold Coast, Kingscliff and Byron Bay, all saying they want to come back next year. The weather held out for us and made the cycling conditions very comfortable.

Saturday afternoon's  chalkboard workshops were interesting with topics ranging from "Why Tandem?", Margy and Lindsay Crisp's "Cycling the Plenty Highway: planning an outback cycle tour", "Tool kit for Touring" and "Taking your bikes on public transport: packing your bike in a box." and "Touring in South America."

Saturday night saw about 85 people gather at the Branding Rail in Murwillumbah Showground for our First Birthday Bush Dance and Dinner.  Who said cyclists can't dance! It was a great night with everyone kicking up their heels to the music of Playing Possum and enjoying Paul's delicious pasta feast. As usual the raffle was a great success with members and visitors taking home assorted cycling prizes and gift bags of local produce.

By Sunday afternoon we were tired but elated at the response we received to the weekend. Thank you to the Showground Trust and the Show Society for the wonderful facilities at Murwillumbah Showground. Our campers were very comfortable and commented on how family friendly and relaxed their stay was.

  A comment from a visitor:

"What the BUG did last weekend was amazing and a great example for other BUGs and community groups to follow."
