About WollumbinBUGWollumbinBUG is a non-profit community-based Bicycle User Group or BUG, affiliated with Bicycle NSW and TweedCAN and located in the beautiful and diverse Tweed Shire in Northern NSW. Our official launch was in September 2009. Our NameWollumbin-Mount Warning, is an iconic landmark of the Northern Rivers region. It is 14 kilometres west-south-west of Murwillumbah, near the border with Queensland on the North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. It is the first place on mainland Australia to receive the sun's rays each day.The mountain is the central volcanic remnant of an ancient shield volcano, and goes by its dual name of Wollumbin or Mt Warning. The caldera that formed since its eruption forms the rim of the beautiful Tweed Valley. Captain James Cook named it Mount Warning on 16 May 1770, but to the local Bundjalung Aboriginal community it is a sacred place known as Wollumbin. The mountain remains a place of cultural and traditional significance to the Bundjalung people. The mountain is now protected by the surrounding Wollumbin National Park, incorporating the former Mount Warning National Park (the two parks were combined in August 2009). Wollumbin-Mount Warning is part of the United Nations World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. Wollumbin-Mt Warning stands majestically over the Tweed Valley and can be seen from all regions within the Shire. It is a unifying and significant symbol for the people of the Tweed. Who Are We: WollumbinBUG members and supporters are everyday people who share an interest in cycling whether it be sporting, recreational, touring, commuting or off-road disciplines. We are dedicated to making cycling safer for cyclists in the Tweed Shire and encouraging cycling in our beautiful region. We cater to all fitness levels, interests, abilities and bicycle types.
